Test 11

Rosemary was outside on the step LOOKING (LOOK) at the winter afternoon. Rain WAS FALLING (FALL) , and with the rain it seemed the dark came too. There WAS (BE) a cold taste in the air and the lamps looked sad. Suddenly, Rosemary saw a young girl, who HAD COME (COME) from the dark shadow. 'Madam, may I speak to you a moment?' said the girl. 'Speak to ME (I) ?' Rosemary turned. The girl was quite young, no OLDER (OLD) than herself. 'Would you let me have the price of a cup of tea?' There was something simple and sincere in that voice. 'Then have you no money at all?' ASKED (ASK) Rosemary. 'None, madam,' came the answer. It all seemed extraordinary. MORE(MUCH) than extraordinary. It was like something in a DOSTOEVSKY'S (DOSTOEVSKY) novel. Supposing she took the girl home? Supposing she did one of those things she was always reading about or seeing on the stage, what would happen?
